This might just be the best shot of devouring personal gravity to come from this particular universe to date, with bass clarinettist (!) DeDionyso tearing the instrument into shreds of resonant human fibre with a roaring style that matches the kind of high-energy teeth/voice collusion favoured by giants like Arthur Doyle and Peter Brotzmann with some gorgeous gulps of melody. With "Cow On Mushrooms" DeDionyso effectively drags the instrument outside of the titanic conceptual reach of previous pioneers like Eric Dolphy, Rudi Mahall, David Murray and Michael Moore, effectively reinventing it as conduit for the gush of fire in terms as unequivocal as Brotzmann himself. Rhythm section of bassist Gene Janas and Adam Kriney power the whole disc straight into the air, building huge ramps straight into the path of the sound. Great uniform label feel to Colour Sounds Recordings thats guaranteed to make you covet the set, with sleeves and inserts printed on textured card and releases limited to 100 copies. This one comes with some bonus glitter and a poem from Ryan Eggensperger. In years to come you'll poke yourself for missing them." (David Keenan, Volcanic Tongue) Spaceships Panic Orbit Spaceships Panic Orbit formed in April 2001 to explore the textural and sonic possibilities of a unique combination of electronic and acoustic sound sources and a variety of sound production approaches. The group is comprised of Many Spaceships on reeds and keyboards, PJ Brownlee (Special Orbit) on laptop electronics and keyboards, Sam Lohman (36) on acoustic drums and electronics, and Jeff Bagato (DJ Panic) performing a musical instrument of his own invention: electronic sounds triggered by scraping a vinyl LP with a small hacksaw. Spaceships Panic Orbit's music brings together the aesthetics of several contemporary avant-garde musics, including electronica, free jazz and free improvisation, power electronics or industrial music, and avant-garde rock. In Fall 2002, Spaceships Panic Orbit released their debut recording, "That Carb in the Circuit Night" as a limited edition CDR on the Nut Music label (http://www.nutmusic.com). Warning Danger Of Death "Founded in the principles of sine wave headaches, contact mics, and feedback loops. Based 2/3 out of DC, 1/3 out of Pennsylvania. The brainchild of Steve Perrucci (drums, effects) during a trip abroad, he has created a beat that drives the members to build their own gear, find their own ways. Heavily improvised over a base of song structures, other members Joe Houpert & Jean Chrastina create the backdrop for chaos. Joe uses the 'suitcase' containing various homemade effects and jean publicly shows disregard for her classical training in a beautiful way through synthesis and effects destruction. Full-length released a few months ago on Fuzzy Panda Recording Co. in hand-packaged cases." |
